REGINA GODEC

REGINA GODEC

It starts when I wish for a new, different tune in the symphony of flavours. I explore traditional processes and mull over bold combinations. I’m interested in beer’s life, how to foster it, guide it and meet its needs to develop its true character. Laško Special holds a special place. It crosses boundaries between knowledge and imagination, tradition and discovery, the big and small. Again and again, it is carefully guided towards that maturity which fully and entirely meets all wishes, requirements, needs.

ANDREJ ŠKORJA

It is always time for new adventures when traditional skills flourish and new discoveries seek for an opportunity. Making dreams reality, creative play, focused commitment, processes adapted to small batches – all this sums up Laško Special. We don’t skimp on anything and we don’t spare anyone. In the end, the reward is there: the colour, aroma, bitterness, taste, aftertaste… Renowned names from our history shine again in full glory, joined by our new names, intertwining heritage with expectations.

NATAŠA KOČAR

NATAŠA KOČAR

To me, beer is a living thing, like a child who needs love, attention and care. Laško Special is the first of the first. At the beginning, I focus on the malt, varieties, hop aromas and bitterness, water and yeasts. At the end, it’s the appearance, taste, aroma, saturation, impression and character – all combined in a glass of beer. I’m hooked on malt and hops. It’s wonderful to be a bit of a dreamer and give free rein to your imagination; to ruminate on beer, about an even more brilliant colour, firm froth, noble aroma… and the freshness, combinations, relationships.

Head of quality control

Laško Special is a boutique brand of beer, a challenge we took on for our 190th anniversary. It involves an adapted, small-scale production of specially nurtured beers, including recreated types, known as craft beers. It shares the same basis with all other Laško beers: perfect, flawless ingredients. The technological steps are somewhat different, but what is crucial is the personal, literally signed and confirmed commitment of our experts on brewing, beer quality and development.

Laško Special combines classic sophistication with chic trendsetting. On the one hand, the designation “traditionally brewed” is about reviving tried and tested names in new versions, and on the other, “new tradition” suggests fresh recipes.
History is embodied in a noble red, and the future in an elegant silver neck label.

Laško Special is designed to give pleasure and satisfaction to all the people involved. To us, Laško brewers, for pushing back the limits of our knowledge and making our dreams about beer come true. To retailers, hospitality businesses and consumers, owing to the aesthetic and gourmet perfection of the products. To all beer epicures, because it makes an ordinary day special.

SPECIAL BEER

CITRA LAGER

Pale fresh lager with numerous fruity nuances, but brewed without citruses or tropical fruits. Hip. It is hopped with classic Slovene varieties, and the ingredient selected to spice it up is a fairly recent American hop variety – Citra.

Citra lager has a distinctive light yellow colour and its sensory profile is characterised by citruses, especially grapefruit, and selected tropical fruits, chiefly mango and passion fruit.

Trend

Trend

As our first beer which is truly unparalleled, Citra lager is an appealing novelty in the Central European range of beers.
One of the most popular and trendy hops are used, with a quite unique sensory profile, especially in terms of the European lager scene. Since its plants are still scarce in Slovenia, it is imported.

GOLDING

A delicate, rather spicy lager, widely popular for its bitterness, taste and aroma. A noble beer. It is distinctive for a mix of the three most prestigious and valued Slovenian hops in a well thought-out, fresh combination.

Profile

Golding is dark yellow to light brown in colour, with a mild, refined hop aroma and noble bitterness, and has a stable head and fresh taste.

Tradition

Tradition

A cousin of Laško Golding, a strong lager with 15% extract popular in the time of twist and rock’n’roll.
The Savinja Golding (an ecotype of the English Fuggle) was “guilty” of beginning modern hop farming in Slovenia in the second half of the 19th century.

Hops

Hops

Golding was named after Savinja Golding, its dominant hop ingredient. Celeia is a worldwide known aromatic hop variety with wide application both in ales and in lagers. Aurora is a variety of hops raised in the 1970s in Žalec, Slovenia, with a distinctive, long-lasting, light and fresh aroma.
Though mixing several varieties of hops in one beer is not new to Laško, this particular selection as well as the ratio is interesting and trendy.

STRIPTIS

A strong dark double bock with a warm amber colour, gentle bitterness, full taste and a creamy head. A cognac for beer gourmets. It has a high content of alcohol and extract and a low content of carbon dioxide.

Profile

Bocks typically have a copper to dark brown colour and a medium to strong body, they contain roast malt and their hop aroma is low.

Tradition

Tradition

he name Striptis dates from 1956 and is linked to the tradition of pin-up models and the artist Albert Vargas. We used it for our stronger lager with 19% extract. This bestseller now has a dark counterpart.
Our first strong dark beer, however, was brewed (and drunk) around 1900.

Malt

Malt

There is standard, pale, double and strong bock. They all contain a lot of malt and therefore also a lot of alcohol, from 7.2 to 9.2%.
With many ways to brew it, there are great differences in colour and considerable in taste. The malt for pale bock is made from ordinary, light barley, and for dark bock from special, roasted or caramel malts (the barley is roasted or even caramelized).
